2. The Dead Rabbit, New York City

In New York City, The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog was named the World’s Best New Cocktail Bar, with the World’s Best Cocktail Menu and the International Bartender of the Year in 2013. When you go to the Dead Rabbit, you’ll find a wide variety of drinks from two menus – the parlor menu and the taproom menu. In the Parlor, you’ll find mixed drinks like the Green Swizzle, Porterberry or Whiskey Smash a la Terrington. The Taproom menu includes a variety of wines, cognacs and a variety of pop-ins to enhance your ale of choice. If you’re looking for food, The Dead Rabbit can fill your stomach. Their lunch menu includes a half dozen oysters, sausage rolls, beef sliders and bourbon pecan bread pudding.

3. Dry Martini, Barcelona

Barcelona’s Dry Martini is referred to as one of the Top 50 Bars in the West and for good reason. It was established three decades ago by Pedro Carbonell. In spite of the name, Dry Martini offers a variety of drinks – from dry martinis to classic cocktails and a few signature drinks. The Dry Martini is located in the Example District.

4. 28 HongKong Street, Singapore

Singapore’s 28 Hong Kong Street is a relatively new bar- and it stands out for its farm-to-bar concept and rooftop bar. Featuring cocktails by Michael Callahan, appetizers and entrees, this ritzy bar keeps its patrons close. Booths face one another and encourage patrons to mingle, if they can find this well-hidden gem.

5. The Baxter Inn, Sydney

Open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday, the entrance to the Baxter Inn, in Sydney, Australia, is well hidden. Anton Forte and Jason Scott opened the Baxter inn in 2011, and with their friendly staff and quality drinks and snacks, the place is a hit. The drink menu focuses on whisky offerings, so for a whisky lover, this might be the perfect place to drop in.

6. High Five Tokyo

High Five Tokyo made the “Eaters” magazine best bars list in 2013, ranking in the top 3. The drink menu includes house specials, like the Awl (a pink gimlet), Sake, Shochu Cocktails and classic like the gin-based Mt. Fuji, or the Bamboo Cocktail, which starts with fino sherry. You can get seasonal fruit or simple snacks like butter and toast, pancakes or homemade Japanese Jamon to complement your drink selection.

7. The Parlour, Frankfurt

Yet another local secret, The Parlour is located in Frankfurt, Germany and it’s definitely a bar to experience. With a relaxed atmosphere and couches dominating the seating, it’s a place where comfort and service are key. Reviewers note that almost as soon as you take your seat, a waiter is there to take your order. Sandwiches are available, but visitors should be aware that smoking is allowed in The Parlour.

8. The Candelaria, Paris

If you’re in search of tacos with your drinks, The Candelaria, in Paris, France is the place to go. It first opened in 2011 and was named to “Eater” magazine’s Best 50 Bars in the World list. The bar is a bit hidden, behind the restaurant, but it’s worth the visit. Owner Adam Tsou recommends cocktails like the Santa Margarita, the Pisco Disco and Love By the Moon, to new visitors. The Candelaria is located at 52 rue de Saintonge, in Paris.

9. Door 74, The Netherlands

Billed as the first speakeasy-style bar in The Netherlands, Door 74 is open seven days a week: Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., Friday and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Reservations are welcome, but there are a few rules: no hitting on staff members, no cell phones, no hats and no loud behavior. Drink offerings include the Anchor What, Dia de los Waffelos, gin and tonic creations and a variety of red and white wines. Door 74 hosts a variety of events and is available for private events as well.

10. The Jerry Thomas Project

Rome’s Jerry Thomas Project is a speakeasy-style bar. Entrance requires ringing a bell to summon Prof. Jerry Thomas and a password. Decorated in a 1920s style, this particular location is a cultural association and charges a membership fee. You’ll find a variety of drink, including the often-recommended Frisco Rickey or San Francisco. Reservations are highly recommended as this particular speak easy is a bit small and can fill up fast.
