The Scottish Whisky Tour

Distilleries to Visit

For individuals who adore Scotland and all things Scottish, sometimes a reason to visit is unnecessary - but it helps to have things to do while you’re there. If you or someone in your travel group loves scotch whisky, setting up a tour of some of Scotland’s famous distilleries just might be a great option to create lasting memories. Scottish whisky’s history dates back to the 15th century in Scotland.

There are many companies that can create specialized whisky tours, linking tours of multiple distilleries over multiple days to create a whisky aficionado’s dream vacation. Consider a trip to any of these distilleries, or even more than one.

Located in central Scotland, the Cardhu distillery produces more than two million liters of whisky per year (2,300,000 liters, to be exact). The first distillery was built in1824, and a second in 1872. Nearly 90 years later, the distillery expanded to six stills. From January to March and October to December, there are tours hourly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. From April through September, visitors are urged to call for further information on possible tours.

The Glenfiddich single malt whisky distillery offers three tours for visitors, each offering a specific level of access. The Classic Tour starts with a film and a walk through the mash house. Next, see the still house, where copper stills are used to condense the distillate that becomes Glenfidditch whisky. The tour ends with a tasting. The Explorers Tour builds on the Classic, adding a stop in the warehouse, where the Solera Vat is housed. You’ll also finish up with a tasting. In the Pioneers Tour, you’ll learn about whisky production at every step. Along with the locations in the Classic and Explorers tours, you’ll see a special area of the warehouse and even bottle your own Glenfidditch.
