Christmas For Singles: Avoiding Festivities

December 14, 2013

Many people see Christmas as a time to celebrate with their loved ones. Others may prefer to spend a Christmas for singles.

If you’re part of the second group, these holiday destinations are perfect for you – whether you’re looking for the special one, to make friends or just take some time for yourself.

Singles-only cruises

If you want to avoid Christmas itself or being single, you could try to surround yourself in a situation where everyone else seems to be available too.

One of the most flexible options, singles cruises are perfect for all types of people. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking forward to seeing the world, meeting people or spending some time on your own, on a cruise what you do is entirely up to you. The packages also offer a wide array of activities in each port call, so excursions and adventures are guaranteed too.

Of course couples will eventually start forming eventually, but you’ll still have plenty of single friends to hang out with, or you may meet someone special aboard.

There are many different types of singles cruises, including specific women-seeking-women and men-seeking-men cruises where if you want you will be able to avoid flirting from people you are not interested in.

Bangkok & Phuket

Thailand is a very popular destination for singles, and an usually affordable one too.

For those with a love for markets, Chatuchak Weekend Market will give you over 15,000 stalls. In the evening, enjoy live music and a drink at the Saxophone Bar. A good mix of Western and Thai food, plus the best live jazz in the city, it’s a perfect place to both relax on your own or try to meet new people. Every night a different band plays there, so you’re guaranteed to see something new. If you’re looking for something more local, try the Suan Lum night bazaar, open for 8 hours from 4 p.m. until midnight, you can find great live music, Thai pop, beer gardens, different stalls and a lot of new people to talk to.

Finally, you can always dedicate a weekend to Phuket, less than one hour away by plane. One of the best winter sun destinations in the world, it has great beaches, a crystalline ocean and, for sea-food fans, some of the best and freshest seafood restaurants in the world. At night, you can book a ticket for Phuket Fantasea, Southeast Asia’s biggest dinner and cultural show venue.

Kyoto

This Japanese city spells out relaxation, and the silver snow gives it a completely different kind of beauty. Around winter, Kyoto is much quieter than it is during the rest of the year, and it is the perfect place for you to take some time for yourself.

You can visit the Kiyomizudera temple, a Japanese national treasure with 15 halls, and drink very pure water from one of the waterfalls and springs in the temple. On the way there, don’t forget to check out the many shops that lead up to it. The Kodaiji temple gardens will keep you so relax you’ll lose track of time.

Finally, to understand this city’s history, make sure to pay the Museum of Kyoto a visit. You’ll never know what Kyoto has planned for you, but it’s always worth the visit, especially for a Christmas for singles.

Traveling by yourself is always a refreshing experience, and it can be good to take a break from Christmas. Log onto Trekeffect and start planning this winter’s dream vacation!
