Christmas Las Vegas Style

December 14, 2013

If you’re looking for lights, energy and action on Christmas, Las Vegas, Nevada is the place to be.

There are things to consider though. The strip will be very busy and crowded. Casinos, attractions, shops, restaurants and even the bars will be open and competing for holiday celebrants’ attention.  If the bars and casinos aren’t your cup of tea, there are multiple attractions that you might enjoy.

Events at the Bellagio

The Fountains of Bellagio will have holiday-themed music and light displays at the popular attraction. The fountains dance to Christmas music, changing songs and dances every half hour.  The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio are filled with the magic of Christmas. A 42-foot Shasta Fir tree lit with thousands of lights is the centerpiece of the decorations. Check out the flying reindeer made of whole pecans, the polar bear family made entirely of carnations, and even a working train.

Opportunity Village

Through January 6, Opportunity Village offers a magical experience. Explore the Magical Forest full of hundreds of decorated trees, take a ride on Cheyenne’s Enchanted Carousel, get a photograph with Santa or take a ride on the Forest Express Passenger Train.

Las Vegas Springs Preserve

If lights and décor are what you’re looking for, but you don’t want the glitz and clamor of the Las Vegas strip, then consider the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.  Among the eight mile gardens, half a million LED lights brighten the scene. Holiday musical performances make the Winter Lights Festival positively enchanting.

Winter in Venice

The Venetian and Palazzo hotels come together to create a stunning winter wonderland. Take in holiday concerts or even take a gondola ride. The Venetian will have its own skating rink, where visitors can skate along. A holiday parade of costumed characters will wander through three times each evening, at 6:05 p.m., 8:05 p.m. and 10:05 p.m.

Events in Local Shopping Malls

At Fashion Show Mall, it’s not all about clothes and baubles. Through December 24, visitors can watch the “Believe in the Magic” Holiday Show. Each day, Santa and his elves take visitors on a journey exploring Christmas traditions around the United States. Locations include Texas, New York, Las Vegas and Hawaii. There are shows every two hours, at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., except on Christmas Eve, when the final show is scheduled at 4 p.m.

On the strip, in Crystals at City Center, the center is filled with pink and white poinsettias, red and silver candy cane twist decorations and elaborately designed holiday windows in many of the shops.

As alternatives to the normal Las Vegas experience, these events just might brighten your holiday.
