Top 5 Beaches in Southeast Asia

February 22, 2014

Southeast Asia: spending your vacation in fine places that feature amazing landscapes, spectacular views, and pristine waters will help you unwind, de-stress, and relax.

Listed below are some of the places in Southeast Asia that flaunt stunning beaches perfect for travelers.

Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

Phu Quoc Island is also known as Koh Trol, and is considered as the largest island in Vietnam. This tourist spot has a tropical climate with three seasons: high, shoulder, and low season. During November to March it’s high season where the skies are sunny and the air is humid. Between April to June and late October, it’s shoulder season. The temperature is a bit higher and the humidity reaches up to 85%. The low season, where monsoons are always experienced, happens during July to September.

What is amazing about this island is its coastline. This will surely catch the attention of travellers and beachgoers that want to see astonishing white sands and tropical waters. Travellers have two options on how to reach this place: either travel by plane (subject to visa regulations) or cruise ship (no visa requirement for up to a 15-day vacation).

There are different activities tourists can enjoy in Phu Quoc Island: scuba diving, snorkelling, jet-skiing, wind sailing, and even fishing for squids and other types of fish.

Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand

One of the famous beaches in Phuket, Thailand is the Patong Beach. This crescent-shaped beach features a two kilometer strip of fine sand. From November to April, the sea is calm and flat due to the northeast monsoon. During the southwest monsoon from May to October, the weather doesn’t play nice, creating large and dangerous waves.

Tourists can engage in different activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, and surfing. Travellers can also go parasailing or jet-skiing. There are many operators, boat drivers, and beach vendors that offer these types of water activities. For travellers who want to ease body aches as they suffer from long travel hours, masseuses can be hired to give a relaxing and soothing massage.

Tourists shouldn’t miss out on Phuket’s delicacies too. Travellers can buy goods and fresh lobsters at markets and ask local chefs to cook sizzling feasts out of these. They can also check out different bars, clubs, and restaurants at Soi Bangla (Bangla Road). The place features a busy nightlife that welcomes not just tourists, but also locals.

Kuta (Lombok), Indonesia

Kuta is a coastal town located in the south of Lombok, which is an island in Indonesia. The beaches here feature a spectacular view because of their pristine landscapes and clear blue waters. There are mountains and cliffs around the island that make for exquisite scenery. The sea surrounding Kuta boasts waves great for surfing. Diving, fishing, and exploring the island with private boats are also some of the fun activities tourists can enjoy.

For backpackers, beachgoers, and globetrotters, Kuta is definitely one of the best locations in the world. Many restaurants and accommodations, ranging from budget inns to 5-star hotels, are available for travellers who want to spend holidays in this place. The natives here are friendly and accommodating to tourists. Travellers can get around Kuta by bemo (public transport system), rental cars, ojek (motorcycle), or by hiring local boatmen.

Koh Tonsay, Cambodia

Koh Tonsay is also called Rabbit Island. It’s a Cambodian island located near a Cambodian province called Kep. The locals named the place Rabbit Island because it resembles a rabbit. It’s only 20 minutes away from Kep’s dock.

Electricity is scarce in the island so tourists can expect no television, radio, air-conditioning units or fans at some of the lodging places, and no power for charging gadgets. They’ll see rustic bungalows and undeveloped beach shack restaurants.

Though there’s no electricity, travellers who choose to go on a vacation at Koh Tonsay will enjoy beautiful white sand beaches. It’s also a good place for swims because the sea bottom has a gradual slope and shallow waters. However, though waters are not too deep, there’s an array of corals and different marine animals and plants to see when tourists go diving. The beach is lined with trees growing right up to the water’s edge. The island’s interior is also forested.

Palawan, Philippines

According to It’s More Fun in the Philippines, the official travel website from the Philippines’ Department of Tourism, Palawan is considered as the country’s cleanest and greenest province, and has been internationally recognized for environmental excellence.”

Palawan is comprised of different islands. There are different tourist spots in this place including the islands of Coron and El Nido, El Nido Marine Reserve, Tubbataha Reef, Honda Bay, Tabon Museum, and last but not the least: Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. This river is mostly known as the Underground River, which is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site.

A place rich in natural resources, there are forests and beaches that travellers can explore. Accommodation and food shops are not a problem when tourists want to spend their vacation in Palawan. Different water activities can also be enjoyed by anyone who might want to travel there. Travellers are recommended to try some exotic foods like shipworm (commonly called tamilok) and crocodile meat.

Summer is the perfect season to get a glimpse of these tourist spots. It’s always recommended, however, to consult a travel agent about travel packages incorporated with competitive travel insurance plans to ensure fun and safety during the trip. It’s a must to secure travel insurance before heading out on a trip.
